Hello, my name is Jonathan Lu. I am a cardiovascular radiology fellow here at Stanford University. This is a case of a 19-year-old cross-country athlete with virus-induced cardiac symptoms concerning for viral myocarditis. The patient in this case received SINAE images of the mid-heart short axis. Here on these two images we see mild dilation of the right ventricle, but normal appearing left ventricle with normal thickness of the left ventricular myocardium. On a different patient, a 22-year-old patient with viral symptoms, on our T2-weighted sequences we see increased signal within the mid-heart inferior and infralateral walls concerning for myocardial edema. On our delayed gadolinium enhancement images we see mid-myocardial patchy delayed gadolinium enhancement. On a third patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy we see marked thickening and hypertrophy of the intraventricular septum. On our delayed gadolinium enhancement images we see delayed gadolinium enhancement at the insertion points of the right ventricle.
Video Summary
Jonathan Lu, a cardiovascular radiology fellow at Stanford, presents cases involving heart conditions. A 19-year-old athlete showed slight right ventricle dilation, suspected of viral myocarditis. A 22-year-old with similar viral symptoms exhibited myocardial edema and patchy delayed gadolinium enhancement noted on imaging, indicating potential cardiac inflammation. Another patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy displayed significant thickening of the intraventricular septum and gadolinium enhancement at the right ventricle insertion points, typical of this condition. These cases highlight the use of advanced imaging techniques in diagnosing diverse cardiac pathologies.
