I'm Brett DeGoyer. I'm a primary care sports medicine specialist and neuromusculoskeletal medicine specialist practicing for Samaritan HealthCare in Moses Lake, Washington. Dealing with low back pain as a result of a bulging or herniated disc, we will typically utilize treatments in manual and osteopathic manipulation treatment to decompress that area of the spine where the bulging disc is at. So I will use techniques that are a combination of inhibition of paraspinal muscles, as well as myofascial, as well as what we call traction. All of those are combined in order to release the tension through the spine, through those discs, allowing the body to either resorb the disc or that herniation, or at least decompressing enough so that any nerve that's being compressed from that pathology gets more room and the patient feels a lot better and more functional. If you'd like to learn more and see a demonstration of my approach using osteopathic manipulative treatment, please reference the end of the case.
Video Summary
Dr. Brett DeGoyer, a specialist in primary care sports medicine and neuromusculoskeletal medicine, discusses treating low back pain caused by bulging or herniated discs. Practicing in Moses Lake, Washington, he uses manual and osteopathic manipulation techniques including inhibition of paraspinal muscles, myofascial release, and traction. These methods aim to decompress the affected spine area, allowing the body to resorb the disc or reduce nerve compression, thus improving patient comfort and functionality. For a demonstration of his osteopathic manipulative treatment approach, further reference is provided at the end of the case.
