I'm Brett DeGoyer. I'm a primary care sports medicine specialist and neuromusculoskeletal medicine specialist practicing for Samaritan Healthcare in Moses Lake, Washington. So in dealing with hip osteoarthritis, using manual treatment or osteopathic manipulative treatment, the goal is to target the joint capsule and the joint space. I typically do that with using techniques such as myofascial release, traction, or ligamentous articular strain, which is a technique of using the body's ligaments and bones to release tension throughout the capsule, throughout the joint space, and then do some mobilization or range of motion to help promote fluid, that synovial fluid, into the acetabular joint, thus giving the patient some relief from the degenerative changes that are going on in the joint. If you'd like to learn more about how I approach this and see a demonstration of some of these techniques, please reference the end of the case.
